Cookie Policy
Exactly which cookies and browser-storage items WebInspect uses, why, for how long — and how to change your choice at any time.

01What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back with later requests to the same site. Local storage and session storage are similar browser features that keep small values on your device; unlike cookies they are not sent to our servers automatically.
The EU ePrivacy rules (in Romania, Law 506/2004) let us store information on your device without asking only when it is strictly necessary to provide a service you requested. Everything else needs your prior consent, which we collect through the cookie banner. Any personal data involved is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
In short: WebInspect itself sets only first-party cookies. Strictly necessary cookies keep you logged in and remember your cookie choice. Analytics cookies are off until you opt in. We use no advertising, social-media or cross-site tracking cookies, and every inspector works the same whether you accept or reject analytics.
02Cookies and storage we use
This is the complete list of what WebInspect stores. “First-party” means the item is set by and only sent to WebInspect itself. Cookies set by other services when pages load their content are listed under Third-party services.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Category | Duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
wi_consent | Remembers your cookie choice (consent version, whether analytics is allowed, and when you chose) so the banner does not reappear on every page. | Strictly necessary | 6 months | First-party |
wi_user | Keeps you logged in to your account. HttpOnly — not readable by scripts. Set only when you log in or sign up. | Strictly necessary | 30 days, or until you log out | First-party |
admin_session | Signed login session for the operator's administrators. Never set for regular visitors. HttpOnly. | Strictly necessary | 12 hours, or until logout | First-party |
wi_vid | Random visitor ID used to count unique visitors, page views and completed inspections in our own analytics. Set only after you accept analytics. | Analytics (opt-in) | 365 days, renewed on each tracked visit | First-party |
wi_sid | Random session ID that groups the pages viewed during one visit. Set only after you accept analytics. | Analytics (opt-in) | 30 minutes, renewed on activity | First-party |
Browser storage
| Key | Purpose | Category | Duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
wi-theme | Local storage. Remembers the light or dark theme — written only when you use the theme toggle. Never sent to our servers. | Functional (strictly necessary) | Until you clear site data | First-party |
wi_entrance_played | Session storage. Remembers that the homepage intro animation already played in this tab, so it is not repeated. Holds the value 1; never sent to our servers. | Functional (strictly necessary) | Until the tab is closed | First-party |
Your free-inspection allowance and the AI request limits do not depend on any analytics cookie: for visitors without an account they are counted against a hashed (one-way) form of your IP address, so rejecting analytics never blocks or resets them.
03Cookie categories
Strictly necessary — always on
Needed for the site to work or to deliver something you explicitly asked for: staying logged in, remembering your cookie choice, and the interface preferences above (which never leave your browser). They are exempt from consent and cannot be switched off in the banner, although you can still block them in your browser — some features, such as logging in, will then stop working.
Analytics — opt-in
wi_vid and wi_sid let us measure, in our own first-party analytics, how many people use WebInspect, which pages they view and how many inspections complete. The data stays with us; it is not shared with advertising or analytics companies. These cookies are set only after you choose Accept all or switch Analytics on under Customize. Until then — and after you reject or withdraw consent — your browser sends no analytics requests, our servers refuse to set these cookies, and any existing ones are deleted.
We do not use advertising, marketing, social-media or cross-site tracking cookies of any kind.
04Third-party services
Fonts. Every page loads the Inter and JetBrains Mono typefaces from Google Fonts (Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd.) (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser connects directly to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser user-agent as part of that request. WebInspect does not set any Google cookie and Google Fonts does not use cookies for these requests, so nothing is stored on your device by this step.
Homepage background video. The animated background on the homepage (/) is currently streamed from Pexels (videos.pexels.com). Pexels’ content-delivery network, operated by Cloudflare, can set the following third-party cookies on the pexels.com domain when your browser downloads the video. They are controlled by Pexels, not by us, are used for bot protection and traffic management, and are not readable by WebInspect:
| Name | Purpose | Category | Duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm | Cloudflare bot management — distinguishes people from automated traffic. | Strictly necessary (for Pexels) | 30 minutes | Third-party (pexels.com) |
_cfuvid | Cloudflare rate limiting — groups requests from the same browser. | Strictly necessary (for Pexels) | Until you close the browser | Third-party (pexels.com) |
Other pages do not load this video. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser prevents these cookies without affecting how WebInspect works.
Inspection services. The inspectors query external services such as ipwho.is (IP geolocation API) and the crt.sh certificate-transparency database from our servers, not from your browser. Pages include a DNS prefetch hint for these hostnames, which may make your browser resolve their names in advance; it does not connect to them and no cookies are involved.
Outbound links (for example to biela.dev) set no cookies on WebInspect. If you follow them, the destination site’s own cookie policy applies.
05Changing or withdrawing consent
You can change your choice at any time — withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Use the button below or the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page to reopen the preferences.
Your current choice: Checking your current choice…
When you reject or withdraw analytics consent, we delete wi_vid and wi_sid from your browser straight away and stop all analytics requests. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before it. To have analytics records already collected about you erased, see the rights section of the Privacy Policy or write to [email protected].
Your choice is stored for 6 months, after which we ask again. We also ask again if we change the categories of cookies we use.
06Blocking and deleting cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data, either for all sites or just for WebInspect:
Clearing “cookies and site data” for WebInspect also removes the local and session storage keys listed above. If you delete wi_consent, the banner will ask for your choice again on your next visit. Blocking wi_user prevents logging in; the inspectors themselves keep working.
07Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the cookies we use change; the date at the top shows the latest revision. If a change affects what you consented to, the cookie banner will ask you again.
